The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 服装，布景，摄影都很棒。

原作有两个主角，电影砍掉了其中一个，只聚焦另一个，或许是出于篇幅的考虑，但也让思想性削弱了很多。作为名著改编，在影像上几乎没有什么令人惊艳的段落，而且大段的旁白让影片看上去又很像超长版的故事梗概。最大的价值大概是还算可以吸引观众去阅读原著吧。
男主作为老江湖这一设定，很多行为并不像老江湖该有的作为。
表演一般，旁白来凑，表演最好的可能是报社那只猴子🐵，看到几百年前巴黎的媒体社会政治乱象挺有意思。德不配才自然不配财，终究镜花水月一场空。

没有想象的这么好，节奏太慢了，2个半小时，最后我加速看的，讽刺的现象都是普遍存在的，一直存在的，毕竟是著作，当时这种事情可能还值得抨击，放在现在真是见怪不怪了。

改编比较大，对19世纪20年代巴黎各阶层社会氛围的还原是亮点，还算值得一看吧。
作为电影或作为文学改编都乏善可陈，但凭故事性本身就值三星了。不知是打光还是因为对巴黎太熟悉，整个氛围有一种塑料感，没有历史质感
解说//软饭男靠富婆奋斗的一生，居然不是老电影，价值观很倒胃口；男主靠傍文青老夫人来到巴黎，结果老夫人自顾不暇嫌他丢人一脚踹开；随后男主便像退婚流的萧炎一样发愤图强迎娶白穷美走上人生巅峰（小报）成功完成打脸剧情，在最璀璨的时刻，贵族戏耍他，小报倒闭了，女友死去了，穷小子终究是幻灭
