The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 宿敌 印度电影就是你能够明显的感觉到他在推情绪，而且他就是要把这个情感用音乐画面推到最满。
这看来是奔着第二部去的，隐藏的线索不少啊。
最好一场戏是两男三女第一次围桌，
悬疑片，合格，不算太好，但，是我们的国产电影无法仰望的高峰。
能拍已经是很大的进步了，虽说改变不了什么，但火苗已经种下了，时间一长终会烧起来！
一个中年人还相信爱情，这本身就挺神话的。里面的中年人其实也不太谈爱，更多是琢磨怎么过日子，实在不行就你就跟我住一起吧，都是这种表述。影片最有趣的地方是，以一种女性视角，处理了一个我们熟悉的男性中年危机的套路，所以，剧情很快也从中年男性话题跳走了。而三个女性角色，也是各有各的魅力。影片呈现出一种轻松与俏皮，对于情感，也没那么功利，而是暧昧与含混的，而这本身，却让这群本来不会有爱情的中年人之间，产生了丝丝浪漫。最终，这还是部基于爱情的，都市轻喜剧，很都市，也很轻喜剧。
中年人的爱情戏最好看。
作为导演处女作值得鼓励。全上海话对白、美术布景环境、角色举手投足都充满浓浓上海小资气息，主角们过着舒适的有闲有钱惬意生活，不接地气接“上气”（但不像郭敬明电影或偶像剧那样做作生厌讨嫌），因此凸显情感问题。好几场戏都以男女性别地位对调来犀利地讽刺那些男性主义中心视角观念的爱情戏烂俗桥段，非常出彩。老乌去法国留学的年份无需多言便隐含难以诉说的身世背景。影片就像那个神秘话唠的修鞋匠，张口闭口就要掉书袋耍机灵秀外语或扔迷影元素。观影后越细细回味越觉得小聪明弄得过多。台词打磨得很强，但全片情绪节奏忽高忽低，用大段MV式过场和硬切串起饭局等几场好戏，造成段落式割裂感，有佳句无佳章。小鲜肉男生的每次出场都以其糟糕的表演进一步破坏了影片的质感，演技被状态极佳的马伊琍倪虹洁周野芒中年团全方位吊打。三星半
中国大银幕上太稀缺的城市电影（人物、故事和情感都与城市融为一体），通过女性视角去展现属于成年人的两性情感关系，虽然是小人物、小情调，但蕴含着极大的生活能量。作为爱情轻喜剧商业片来看又比很多同类影片（无论中外）多了一丝灵动，这得益于导演的一些调度小心思为影片质感做了有效提升。今年小荧屏上有《爱很美味》，大银幕上有《爱情神话》，国产爱情喜剧影视作品也算是功德圆满了。
