The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 厌女和信奉孝道的社会里典型的、拧巴的母女关系。女孩子长大成人的过程，便是杀死体内那只红熊猫的过程。青春期萌芽的自我、作为一个真实的人奔腾不息的自然天性——这只红熊猫，被视作“红水・猛兽”，在“好女孩”“乖女儿”“女人味”的规训下，沿着祖母→母亲→女儿的代际链条，被一次次压抑、扼杀、窒息。真希望每个妈妈都能带女儿去看这部电影，不，每个女儿都能带妈妈去看这部电影。
每个角色都挺喜欢，作为一个年轻女性，居然会觉得老白这个角色太有魅力了，比徐峥本人有魅力太多。
我就说一点，倪虹洁的各种热辣打扮，没有一个镜头是在聚焦她的身材和男人的反应的，但每一个她的镜头却都满溢着自由的吸引力。要表现一个性感女人给观众的第一印象不是从性吸引力入手，光这一点就吊打99%的国产同类型片。

就因为这部电影
上海人的群戏，真洋气，听着上海话也感觉挺舒服，完全没有了当年宿舍听台州话要躲出去的冲动。放松、自在、讨好自己、不疾不徐，这是中年历尽沧桑却又对生活充满希望和憧憬该有的样子。
笑不活了，关于我想当红墩墩我妈不同意就变成红墩墩ProMax来教训我这件事
很有腔调的文艺电影。几个演员各自出色，不过三个女人一台戏也好，儿子的感情也好，或者主人公纠结黏糊的情感，都是戏到关头生生绕开，所以看得并不尽兴。但出了影院再一想，也许这种意犹未尽正是腔调本身。很放松舒服的观影体验。
感觉这剧本是坂元裕二写出来的，当然还有这北电戏文专业练就的会写段子的伶牙俐齿。最后的镜头挺好，最让人感动的老乌的故事感觉像是“青年破处”版广岛之恋。
真的是有独特气质了，有点喜欢，像是某种话唠片的本土化变体，很好笑底色又没那么丧。戏里戏外都在询问你愿不愿意相信这个爱情神话，简单的小美好了。好喜欢这几个演员啊～
天啊，太多熟悉的场景了，安福路的话剧院，马里巴昂，甚至好像看到了静安别墅的夏布洛尔（？），费里尼的电影直接飞回大学时期了。第一次看到地道的沪语电影，也有点感动，加一星。想起了一些老朋友，经常周末坐在巨鹿路噶三湖到深夜，聊一些圈子内的八卦情史，聊村上也聊罗曼罗兰，其实也是很浪漫的一段日子。编剧年轻，前途无量。
我们的创作者真是卑微啊，有点社会责任感的就被拉黑名单，有点钱的就只能造些空中楼阁来聊以自慰，在这片土地上拍电影就跟在火星上种菜一样。然后到最后就剩下这么样一团破烂坐上了“年度华语电影”的位置。我们的观众也实在是卑微，生活在水深火热中还要在嘲笑西方政治正确之余面对这种电影腆着笑脸保持着精神小资和政治太监的复合人设。什么叫一方水土养育一方人啊？中产的，太中产的。
作为年轻导演的处女作确实很惊艳！但是也存在新导演的不足，开篇的轻喜剧氛围被老乌与索菲亚罗兰的“爱情神话”带向了荒诞迷离风，不过结尾的微信彩蛋又把节奏带回来了。
马伊琍的上海话太有味了，对倪虹洁改观了，这电影里的爱情观👏总体值得一看

我感觉吧，这个中式父母，只能算一般般讨人厌的程度，而已。
上海，费里尼，索菲罗兰；小资，话痨，中年危机，真的是全都踩在我的点上。没想到生活中熟悉得不得了的场景，就这么被搬到大荧幕上，爱死了。
上一次看到这么喜欢的国产电影是什么时候呢 倪虹洁走进ktv时低了低头 又撑起笑容；马伊琍在天台说 再年轻一些的时候我也吃这套；小玛雅说“我背叛了” 老白赶紧说“我乱说的 你们什么事都没有”；老乌的爱情神话 看哭了 葬礼那段很喜欢 来和去都本应是如此自然的事
个么不就是男女那点事嘛？然而可贵之处也正在这里，人的情感本就是幽微而细腻的，如此逼真地、不带任何judge地讲述生活中这些真实的瞬间。
正常情况下来说，我是极其憎恶在电影放映时交谈的，但在一个几乎满座的场次里，绝大部分都是上了年纪的本地阿姨爷叔，并且用上海话低声讨论剧情和笑评，倒反而有了点趣味。三个女演员太灵了，各有各的风华。虽然每个角色都各有各的拧巴，但是演员们表演得自然流畅收放自如。小真实和小浮夸水乳交融。这群人的每场聚餐戏都可爱极了，倪虹洁和马伊琍在画廊的剪影scene也是好看。前一个小时的节奏、结构和台本都很满意，但是后一个小时（尤其是最后40分钟）没兜住，节奏和剧情都松散，尤其是最后的强行升华反而扫了兴。总的来说，瑕不掩瑜咯~
