The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 视觉风格依然是典型的柯南伯格，尤其很多场景、道具直接呼应《感官游戏》，body horror再次展现令人欲罢不能的怪诞美学，相比表象，主题更为激进大胆，柯南伯格都马上要八十的人了，仍然对现实世界，对社会制度，对艺术探索保持清醒的警戒，依旧是当代电影的首席开拓者。痛感带来快感，痛感催生改变，痛感推动人类进化，痛感造就全新世界。
